They’re Everywhere! Find Your Local Secessionist Group Here

From Secessionist.us

“The charter of the American Secession Project is simple. We desire to place the concept of secession in the mainstream of political thought. Our intent is to proclaim that secession is a viable and legal right and a practical solution to contemporary problems. Secondly, we desire to build a coalition of groups seeking autonomy and independence within the current United States. Mutual support for the concept of self-determination and secession will eventually benefit all groups seeking freedom.

“Secessionists come in all ethnic and cultural backgrounds colors and religious persuasions. Secession is neither liberal nor conservative, it is a right that might be equally applied regardless of a group’s persuasion. The folks that support a free California and an Independent Alaska certainly disagree on numerous issues, specifically environmental issues. However the concept of supporting another in their bid to manage their own affairs is certainly a historic American (if not 20th century American) point of view.

“As such the project has and will attempt to represent each separatist, independence and secessionist group fairly and objectively. Our purpose is to establish that self-determination is a basic right and support all groups seeking self-determination and independence.”

“In answer to a growing swell of interest in realistic responses to the excesses of the present American empire, The Middlebury Institute has been launched by a group of activists and professionals to promote the serious study of separatism, secession, self-determination and similar devolutionary trends and developments, on both national and international scales.

“We believe that, of the options open to those who would dissent from the actions and institutions of a government grown too big and unwieldy and its handmaiden corporate sponsors grown too powerful and corrupt, the only comprehensive and practical one is some form of separatism. Exploring this option is not a step to be taken lightly, because there are established forces that will hamper and resist, and yet it is a legal and viable enterprise, squarely in the American tradition, and of a piece with the worldwide devolutionary current that has seen the breakup of European empires (including the Soviet) and the expansion of the United Nations from 51 to 193 nations in sixty years.

“The Middlebury Institute hopes to foster a national movement in the United States that will: place secession on the national political agenda, encourage secessionist and separatist movements here and and abroad develop communication among such existing and future groups, create a body of scholarship to examine and promote the ideas of separatism, and work carefully and thoughtfully for the ultimate task, the peaceful dissolution of the American empire.”

“Our Mission – We seek to promote a return to limited government and maximum liberty in the USA and around the world through decentralized confederation government combined with direct democracy. Our history shows that pure representative democracy, although required during earlier times of limited communications and travel has often failed to preserve liberty and limit the growth of government or its control by special interests.

“The Swiss Confederation Institute will educate the public on the benefits of expanded direct democracy with the right of referendum & initiative in order for the citizens to curtail or introduce legislation and laws. We also favor the Swiss model of decentralized, limited confederation government as exists in Switzerland today and formerly in America’s first government, The Articles of Confederation and later in the Constitution of the Confederate States of America.

“In addition, we advocate The Swiss concept of ‘Willensnation,’ a growth by attraction – the voluntary association of neighboring states, principalities, cities, and individuals that makes Switzerland a nation created by acts of the free will by voluntarily, peaceful, democratic devolution from other government structures. We believe many nations around the world including the United States of America would do well to study, understand and emulate the successful Swiss example. Aggressive war, growing religious extremism, terrorism, ethnic and religious bigotry and conflict, as well as the often heavy handed tyranny of majorities and special interests could be avoided and supplanted by the Swiss example of direct democracy and confederation.

“Our goal in the United States is to educate the public on the benefits of a return to decentralized, limited confederation style government similar to the Articles of Confederation, America’s first government established by our patriot Founding Fathers. In addition, we seek to promote Swiss style limited government around the world.”

“The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) is a democratic, international membership organization. Its members are indigenous peoples, occupied nations, minorities and independent states or territories who have joined together to protect their human and cultural rights, preserve their environments, and to find non-violent solutions to conflicts which affect them. UNPO provides a legitimate and established international forum for member aspirations and assists its members in effective participation at an international level.

“Although UNPO members have different goals and aspirations, they share one condition – they are not represented in major international fora, such as the United Nations. As a result, their ability to participate in the international community and to have their concerns addressed by the global bodies mandated to protect human rights and address conflict, is limited.

“In today’s world, over 90 percent of conflicts are intrastate. UNPO was founded and designed to fill the gap left by today’s international system and its institutions. Notably, it is the members of the organization, the peoples who are most affected by the shortcomings of the international system, who have created the organization.”

“The Alaskan Independence Party can be summed up in just two words: ALASKA FIRST!

“Until we as Alaskans receive our Ultimate Goal, the AIP will continue to strive to make Alaska a better place to live with less government interference in our everyday lives.

“The Alaskan Independence Party’s goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:
1) Remain a Territory.
2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3) Accept Commonwealth status.
4) Become a State.

“The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party’s founding father, Joe Vogler, which was for Alaskans to achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences.”
