(NaturalNews) Several recent headlines about a study which concluded that mercury levels in children with autism were not significantly higher than those without have been widely distributed. Headlines reading “Mercury levels not related to autism” and “Mercury not linked with autism, study says” were at the top of many American and European newspapers and magazines in October.1
These publications quickly latched on to the implied fact that because children with autism and those without had about the same blood mercury levels, mercury cannot be the reason children are getting autism. This isn’t the first time the media has been misleading in its interpretation of science.
The study they refer to is from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and was published on October 19, 2009. The study was titled Blood Mercury Concentrations in CHARGE Study Children with and without Autism and was authored by Irva Hertz-Picciotto, Peter G. Green, Lora Delwiche, Robin Hansen, Cheryl Walker, and Isaac N. Pessah. It was published through Environmental Health Perspectives and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.2
The study found that young children without autism have equivalent mercury levels in their blood when compared to children who’ve been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The study also included children with Down’s Syndrome and other developmental disorders.
The study involved 452 children between 2 and 5 years of age and adjusted for demographic and mercury sources such as fish. Most of the children measured, regardless of mental ability, were found to have 0.28 micrograms of mercury per liter of blood or less before adjustments and 0.26mcg/L or less after adjustment.
The problem here is the methodology used and the conclusions drawn by the media versus what the actual science is proposing.
Understanding that blood mercury versus tissue mercury is not the same is the first clue. Mercury absorbed through vaccination goes directly into the blood, but quickly transfers to body tissues. Similarly, mercury absorbed through diet usually is absorbed into tissues quickly. Mercury absorbed directly through the skin travels in the same manner, spending very little time in the blood.
Mercury, when found in the blood, is usually there for one of two reasons: recent introduction or as part of the body’s natural flushing system to be rid of it. Mercury, regardless of why it’s in the blood, does not stay in blood for very long.
Mercury injected into the blood would have to move on to other tissues before ASD could be caused by it. Regardless of whether mercury caused the ASD, the blood levels of those with and without autism would be roughly the same. Obviously, in order for the mercury to have caused ASD, it has to have affected and damaged the nerve cells. This means it’s no longer in the blood stream.
Most scientists agree that the most accurate measurement method of mercury contamination in mammals, including humans, is hair, not blood.
Now, back to the media representation of this study.
Does it seem odd to anyone that this study was done and published and grabbed up by the main stream media right about the same time that H1N1 vaccines containing Thimerosal (a mercury derivative) are being pushed on pregnant women and young children? What about the fact that recent studies, covered here on NaturalNews,3 have shown direct links between mercury and autism and between vaccines themselves and ASD? Yet these studies got little traction in the main stream.
Strange coincidences, to be sure.

(NaturalNews) Dr. Mehmet Oz is a huge promoter of vaccines. He’s been on television reinforcing fear about H1N1 swine flu and telling everyone to get vaccinated. But what he didn’t tell his viewing audience is that he holds 150,000 option shares in a vaccine company that could earn him millions of dollars in profits as the stock price rises. It is in Dr. Oz’s own financial interest, in other words, to hype up vaccines and get more people taking them so that his own financial investments rise in value.
Evidence describing these facts was delivered to NaturalNews by a private investigator named Joseph Culligan (http://www.josephculligan.com). That evidence includes an SEC document detailing how Dr. Oz. bought options on stocks for SIGA Technologies in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. SIGA Technologies (stock symbol SIGA) is a vaccine technology company with many advanced developments whose success depends on the widespread adoption of vaccines. According to SEC documents, Dr. Mehmet Oz. currently holds 150,000 option shares on SIGA Technologies, purchased for as little as $1.35 back in 2005.
At the time of this writing, SIGA Technologies is trading at $7.10, making those options bought in 2005 worth $5.75 in profits today. If all the 150,000 options purchased by Dr. Oz. were exercised today, they would be worth roughly$180,000 in profits (they were bought at different prices, not all at $1.35). This is all revealed in what the SEC website calls an “insider transaction” document (link below).
These options won’t expire until the years 2015 – 2019, and the higher the stock price of SIGA gets before then, the more profit can be realized when these options are cashed out. You can see the 2019 expiration date in this “insider transaction” form: http://sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/…
If the stock price of SIGA Technologies could be pumped up even more — say, from someone hyping up vaccines in front of a national audience — these options could mathematically be worth millions of dollars.
Dr. Oz. isn’t merely a holder of SIGA stock options, by the way: He’s on the Board of Directors! As SIGA’s own website explains, Dr. Oz has served on the board since 2001 and continues his role there today. This brings up the obvious question:
Is it right for someone talking about whether vaccines are safe on television to also be carrying stock options and serving on the board of directors of a vaccine company at the same time?
Just to make things a little more interesting, SIGA Technologies recently received a $3 million grant in taxpayer dollars from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The purpose of the grant money? To fund the study of a chemical adjunctnamed ST-246 to be used in future vaccines. So taxpayer money is now being used to fund a vaccine technology company whose stock price increases will financially benefit the very celebrity doctor who is hyping up vaccines to a national audience.
Something sounds fishy here…
To my knowledge, Dr. Oz. has never disclosed to his viewing audience the fact that he owns 150,000 option shares of SIGA Technologies. And yet, with an audience of millions, Dr. Oz has continued to beat the drum of the vaccine industry, urging people to get vaccinated while implying that vaccines protect people from swine flu (even though there is absolutely no scientific evidence to back up that claim).
Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of Health and Human Services, who recently taught Americans the federally-approved way to sneeze this season, was on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
She was trying to explain widespread delays in the delivery of the H1N1 vaccine across the country.
Basically, of course, she said it wasn’t the Obama administration’s fault, that as soon as the vaccines come in, they’re being shipped out immediately by the many thousands of doses.
You know how everyone talks about Americans not making things anymore, that so many manufacturing jobs, for instance, have been shipped overseas?
Well, Sebelius was essentially saying the same goes for flu-vaccine-making.
Four of the world’s five makers are foreign. And we all think we know what that means.
Members of Congress could have been exploring this subject last winter when their latest automatic pay raises took effect.
Instead, Wednesday they expressed shock and dismay at the situation now that it’s October and thousands are already falling ill with the H1N1 virus (see photo above, shown somewhat larger than life).
Also, Purdue University researchers reported the late deliveries may not matter because by the end of this year 63% of Americans will be infected anyway. So, too many doses, too late.
But wait! There’s more.
This morning comes word from a new ABC News/Washington Post poll that almost four parents out of 10 do not believe the vaccine is safe and have no intention of allowing their children to receive it.
More than 60% of adults say they have no intention of getting the vaccine either.
Using an open-ended question, the poll also found the overwhelming reason for rejecting the vaccine this year despite federal warnings and mounting concern about the illness’ seriousness was concern about side effects and disbelief in its safety, especially suspicions that it has been inadequately tested. Other reasons included general ignorance and a belief the illness was probably less serious than the danger of the vaccine.
So much for the persuasive powers of the U.S. federal government. Think about that for a minute: A whopping majority of Americans (62%) would rather risk illness than believe in their government’s urgings of necessity and safety.
(NaturalNews) In the world of virology, few people have the track record of achievements attributed to Dr. Albert Osterhaus. He’s the Head of Department of Virology at the Erasmus MC, University of Rotterdam. Among his many achievements, he was the first to prove the infection mechanism of SARS in 2003. He’s also credited with being the first to detect the cross-species infection mechanism of H5N1.
In his 20 years of dedication to the study of infectious disease, Dr. Osterhaus has authored more than 650 scientific papers and is credited with the identification of a dozen viral pathogens. To anyone who works in any scientific field, these are astonishing achievements.
Dr. Osterhaus’s credentials and expertise in his field aren’t in question. What’s being scrutinized now, according to a short report published by the journal Science, are his links to corporate interests that stand to potentially profit from the swine flu pandemic.
According to a European Commission “Research” website, Dr. Osterhaus is the co-founder of two biotech companies, and is involved in promoting vaccines as a solution against a future pandemic. As published on the Science website:
“Last week, his reputation took a nosedive after it was alleged that he has been stoking pandemic fears to promote his own business interests in vaccine development. As Science went to press, the Dutch House of Representatives had even slated an emergency debate about the matter.”
Little else is currently known on the matter. No other official announcements have yet appeared. For such allegations against such an esteemed scientist to appear on the website of the journal Science is, all by itself, a noteworthy development.
At the same time, NaturalNews urges readers to exercise caution in reading too much into this. To our knowledge, nothing has been proven against Dr. Osterhaus at this point. And even though we may be opposed to flu vaccines as a matter of principle, we should at least consider a very reasonable question: What else is this doctor supposed to be involved with if not the area of his expertise?
For him to start a biotech company that leverages his technical expertise in the area of virology seems entirely reasonable. Similarly, an expert in optics could be reasonably expected to be financially involved in a telescope manufacturing venture at some point.
The real question is whether Dr. Osterhaus intentionally exaggerated the threat of the swine flu pandemic specifically to benefit his own bottom line. And that’s a very tricky question, it turns out. The assessment of the real danger of H1N1 is highly subjective. Some say it’s harmless, but others point out the potential possibility for rapid evolution of the circulating strains of H1N1 into a far more dangerous pathogen.
Here at NaturalNews, we continue to say that taking vitamin D is far better for you than taking a vaccine shot for any flu: Seasonal flu, swine flu or otherwise. But that doesn’t mean the virus won’t at some point mutate into a strain that could pose a very serious threat to a largely vitamin D deficient population.
It’s a fine line between “stoking fears” and simply “educating people” about what might be coming. I’ve been accused of stoking fears about the coming collapse of the U.S. currency, and yet in my heart, I know that warning about such inevitable developments is done with the highest intentions — to hope that people will take precautions so they don’t get wiped out when the Federal Reserve’s game of musical chairs comes to a halt.
